Random Thoughts 8/24
Hello all….
Time for another random thought blog!
*Today is Madelyn’s 8th birthday, yesterday we had a party for her at a local skating rink. I think everyone had a blast, I can’t believe that I can still skate! I hadn’t tried in probably 15 years….more than that, I can’t believe my little baby is already 8 years old!
* Tonight, I sang for the youth service at church and truly enjoyed it….mostly Hillsong United songs. Speaking of H.U., gonna see them in Indianapolis on Tuesday!
*I think Mr. Obama has made a big mistake with his vp choice. Enough to likely lose my vote that he was close to getting.
*Guardian – Buenos Aries, Argentina Dec. 6th, 2008.
*I want to see the movie “The Rocker”.
*I dig the Metro Station disc. In an era where kids would rather play classic rock songs on Guitar Hero than check into new music being offered, a band comes through with melody, song structure, talent, and………fun!
*This morning before church, they held a Honduras Missions Team recap for the trip this past summer. It was a moving ordeal. If you are not touched by the ministry opportunities the team had, check your pulse! I’m not cut out for the mission field..but Heather and Christian have embraced it..Christian even talks about doing it as a “musicianary” combining music with missionary work.
*The middle school here in Ft. Branch had another school shooting threat on Friday. It was discovered scrawled on the bathroom wall. It seems to be another sick prank, but regardless, the Rowe kids will not attend school tomorrow becase if something indeed DID happen, I couldn’t deal with knowing I had an opportunity to keep them home and didn’t. It’s an excused absence.
*Video Blogs- Not entirely sure why, but my youtube account was deleted! I sent an email requesting info and so far, have gotten no response. But all 54 video blogs are now gone!
I’m not too bummed though because I haven’t been v-blogging much..and if I did, they were rushed and not very interesting I suppose. I’ll relaunch..and I promise to make them entertaining and hopefully better than ever!
*Diet Coke is a national treasure.

Political advertising…
A personal observation:
Most of Obama’s advertising focuses on Barak Obama. But most of McCain’s advertising also focuses on Barak Obama.
I wish the Karl Rove style of campaigning would go away and candidates would spend their advertising funds on telling America why they should vote for them- instead of trying to get me to NOT vote for the other candidate.
Food for thought.
PS- As for me, I wish there were better choices all around this election.

Red Bull puts heart at risk, says study
A single can of energy drink Red Bull could raise the risk of a heart attack and stroke, researchers claim.

An Australian study found the sugar free version of the caffeine-loaded beverage causes the blood to become sticky and increases the chance of a life threatening clot.
Dr Scott Willoughby, who tested the drink on students, said: “One hour after they drank Red Bull, their blood systems were no longer normal. They were abnormal like we would expect in a patient with cardiovascular disease.
“If you add in other risk factors for cardiovascular disease – stress or high blood pressure – this could be potentially deadly.”
The study was carried out at the Cardiovascular Research Centre at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
Red Bull spokeswoman Linda Rychter said the report would be assessed by the company’s head office in Austria.
But she added: “The study does not show effects which would go beyond drinking a normal cup of coffee.”
Red Bull is banned in Norway, Uruguay and Denmark because of health risks listed on its cans, but the company last year sold 3.5 billion cans in 143 countries. One can contains 80 mg of caffeine, around the same as a normal cup of brewed coffee.
Cans already carry health warning advising consumers not to drink more than two a day.
Dr Willoughby said Red Bull could be potentially deadly when combined with stress or high blood pressure.
“If you have any predisposition to cardiovascular disease, I’d think twice about drinking it,” he said.
Red Bull contains around 80mg of caffeine, around the same as a cup of filter coffee or two cups of instant coffee.

Those who think they can do it on their own end up obsessed with measuring their own moral muscle but never get around to exercising it in real life. Those who trust God’s action in them find that God’s Spirit is in them—living and breathing God! Obsession with self in these matters is a dead end; attention to God leads us out into the open, into a spacious, free life. Focusing on the self is the opposite of focusing on God. Anyone completely absorbed in self ignores God, ends up thinking more about self than God. That person ignores who God is and what he is doing. And God isn’t pleased at being ignored.

I want to pay more attention to God than I do self.
Sad to say I haven’t been doing that lately. I’ll even say I put myself before God AND others. But I can change that. Right now.

Good morning….
It’s 10:30am, I’m in the midst of my workday, helping build a stronger presence on the net for some wonderful artists.
I’m feeling pretty good today and hope to be beyond productive.
Grace has been on my mind alot, it usually is, but lately, I am really, really clinging to it. I’m one of those who feels like he gets it wrong more often than right in serving God. But I’m also aware that He’s got my back.

Romans 8:31-39 (The Message Version)
So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture:
They kill us in cold blood because they hate you.
We’re sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one.
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.
